Jon Gosselin's tearful interview on ABC may win back fans. Plus, Kate's $400K Playboy offer.
Yesterday Kate Gosselin shocked us by stepping out of the spotlight. Limelife says she tore up a $400,000 offer from Hugh Hefner to pose for a spread in Playboy (a source told Star she "was totally mortified and threw it away! She didn't think it was appropriate because of the children.")
Meanwhile her husband Jon Gosselin finally stepped into the limelight to clear up media buzz, giving his first television interview without Kate since their split last May. If you set aside the whining and accusations directed at his soon-to-be-ex-wife Kate that she stripped him of his identity, he gave a winning interview on ABC Primetime Family Secrets with Chris Cuomo.
Cuomo was tough, warning Gosselin that "the mother of your children is not supposed to be criticized" and calling Jon out for living the equivalent of a midlife crisis since uniting with his now-girlfriend, 22-year-old infamous party girl Hailey Glassman. Despite the reprimands, Jon told Chris that the interview would be a positive opportunity for him. "I can get a lot off my chest," he said. "[Kate] doesn't speak from the heart. I speak from the heart."
In the interview he makes the point that above all else, he wants his life back, sans the drama surrounding the show. "Let’s finish what we gotta finish and move on with our lives…and stop feeding into the frenzy." We've recapped the highlights of the interview for Celebrity Love fans who missed it or want to play back its most shocking parts.
Cuomo asks who made the first move for the split.
Jon Gosselin: She made the first move. She knows the truth. [Jon says Kate came strolling into their dining room last October and said, "I don't even know why we got married." He pleads to her during the Cuomo interview, "Give me closure."]
Cuomo asks if Jon still loves Kate.
Jon Gosselin: I will always love Kate as the mother of my kids…but at this point…I do not love Kate. I was verbally abused, I was beaten down. She separated me from my family, my mom and my brothers. I'm not going back to that lifestyle. I changed for her. Don't do it.
Cuomo wants to know if Jon feels as though he let his kids down.
Jon Gosselin (near tears): I won't know.
Jon comments that Kate referred to him as a "lame fish," that he wasn't going anywhere in his life. He tells Cuomo, "Excuse me, I'm taking care of the kids...and I'm standing there like, ugh, okay, your Mom's gone again."
Cuomo: Can [the marriage] be fixed?
Jon Gosselin: No, our relationship will never be fixed.
Cuomo asks Jon to set the record straight on why Kate wears her wedding band and Jon doesn't.
Jon Gosselin: She wears her ring for public perception. [He claims one day he set his ring down in the house, and it was gone, suggesting Kate stole it.]
Cuomo wants to know the real deal with Hailey Glassman.
Jon Gosselin: Love her...When I see her, my heart pounds, I get sweaty, I feel like I love her more than I did Kate. I get encouragement from her, I get respect from her, two things a man needs.
This is my soulmate…I’m not joking about that.
[But] I didn’t leave Kate for Hailey...I feel like with this person, I'm not going to lose [everything], it's just gonna get better."
Cuomo asks whether Kate was dating someone during their marriage, specifically her bodyguard, as rumored by the media.
Jon Gosselin: I don’t know. I speculate, but I don’t know. [the security guard] is who she spends time with…that’s a general feel. When they were traveling together I felt jealousy. Whether it’s protection or not, it’s going on in the back of my mind.
With another 20 episodes of Jon & Kate Plus 8 lined up at $75,000 an episode, Chris Cuomo asks Jon if the show will damage the children and what he wants for their future.
Jon Gosselin: The kids are not being forced to film. They know I have a good heart...I want my kids to be safe, healthy and happy…educated and have the best opportunities they can have.
And on what he wants for his own life, Jon says, "My image changes [from good to bad] overnight...I don't want to be America's favorite anything. I just want to be me."
