Anna Paquin Is Not Pregnant

We've seen it before. Even if we pray not to, we'll see it again: headlines claiming that a svelte actress is pregnant just because she is sporting a loose frock, bending at the waist, bloated, or inhaling.

Just ask Jennifer Aniston, who is plagued by such rumors every time she wears a jacket instead of a tank top. Or Reese Witherspoon, the mother of two who occasionally looks as though she actually birthed her own children. The latest victim of the overzealous bump-watching brigade: Anna Paquin. Over the past few days, gossip blogs have been buzzing about the possibility of the True Blood actress being in a family way. Anna's rep, however, insists that all the talk is just that, telling Usmagazine.com that, no, she is "not pregnant."

Of course, we want to believe the rep. After all, the motivation behind bump-watching can be a bit unkind at times (with "pregnant" often standing in for "she looks like she's gained five pounds").

But in some cases, the bump-watchers actually are right, even when there is a denial. Lest we forget, Pete Wentz told the public that his now-wife Ashlee Simpson was not pregnant when, in fact, she was. Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz's Major Public Spat

Will Anna surprise us all, and announce that she and her soon-to-be hubby, Stephen Moyer, have a baby on the way? Or will she just go on, flat-bellied, helping to step-parent his two children from a previous relationship, Lilac, 5, and Billy, 8?

We think the answer is the latter. But that might just be because we are inhaling right now.
