People: RPattz "Wants But Can't Have" Kristen

Kristen Stewart is 'unattainable,' current People says, but Rob's been after her for two years.

The latest issue of People magazine provides fierce insight into the "loves-her-loves-her-not" saga between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

According to People, he loves her.

The article explains that while Robert "plays girls" and is perceived to be a serious ladies' man, Kristen's unattainability is what attracts him to her. He has said she was essentially the reason he signed on to do Twilight and that there was a "certain chemistry" that sparked between them the first time they met two years ago. He has tried to generate romantic interest in other girls (Nikki Reed and Emilie de Ravin are just two examples), but he always seems to come back to Kristen.

What's the intrigue? First of all, her longtime relationship with actor Michael Angarano has presented an enticing obstacle for Robert. Word is that Kristen and Michael broke up late in the spring, but there's been no official confirmation, and the vagueness of the split is pretty exemplary of Kristen's personality. One source in People says that Kristen has a very dry personality that's hard to read, and because Robert is used to fending off women who are usually too open about their interest in him, Kristen's mystery has him hooked.

The two of them have been working on two different coasts all summer, but they'll reunite in August to film Eclipse. Meanwhile the few rendezvous that they have shared over the last few months seemed pretty romantic, witnesses have said. At Kristen's birthday dinner in April, for example, she and Robert were seen kissing, whispering and canoodling. For now People says they're officially just pals, but come fall we may finally hear them confess they're a thing.
