What has sex got to do with it ?

A problem with the label "emotional affair" is that this label can be used to block any attempt to get some emotional satisfaction .  People do not have to be alone together to get emotional satisfaction .  They can talk in a well-lighted restaurant .  A lonely wife can have intimate conversations with a warm male therapist ; if they do not touch each other , is it wrong ?  Is physical sex necessary for emotional satisfaction ?
