Judge speeds up papers, while rep says Amy is "healthy" and "ready to move on."
This morning a Family Court judge in London granted a preliminary stage of divorce that will be finalized in just six weeks to 25-year-old tortured soul singer Amy Winehouse and her jailhouse hubby Blake Fielder-Civil.
OK! reported this development that puts to rest a breakup saga that has occupied almost all of their two-year marriage, during most of which Blake was in jail. The couple wed in May 2007 in Miami, and a month later Amy admitted in an interview that when she was drinking, she sometimes acted violently toward her husband. In July 2008 from his jail cell Blake told Amy's dad that he had introduced Amy to crack and heroin, and in November 2008 he told a British newspaper that he had to "let her go to save her life." Two months later, in January of this year, Blake saw photos of Amy's passionate bikini rendezvous with actor Josh Bowman in St. Lucia, and filed for divorce on grounds of adultery. Amy protested, telling The Sun UK:
I still love my Blake. I won’t let him divorce me. He’s still in jail but the moment he comes out I’ll be there waiting for him. I love him because he’s just like me. Blake is the male version of me. We’re perfect for each other. I don’t want to go back home to England. I want to wait for Blake here. Amy Winehouse Says No Divorce
But other reports suggested that she'd told the press that she was in love with Bowman, that he made her so happy that she didn't need drugs, and that for the moment she had forgotten that she was even married. She acknowledged her adultery to the court and didn't contest the divorce, and last April rumors came out that Blake had impregnated a single mother of two while in rehab. Sex And Drugs Made Me A Man
It's been a melodramatic two (or 25?) years for Amy Winehouse, who is known for mutilating her body when she's sad or coming down from drugs. Neither she nor Blake were present for today's court hearing in London, but the divorce will be final on August 28.
