Unemployed Men Afraid To Date

By posted

Avoiding unemployment talk, many laid-off singles refrain from dating. Is this the right approach?

A man laid off from his consulting gig at a young 25. A 39-year-old photographer who nearly ends his relationship with a woman he met on eHarmony. An IT consultant who considered full-on halting his search for a partner when he lost his job in January. These are the feelings of men wading through the current waves of unemployment, reports an article in the New Tribune Illinois.

Many men are afraid of how the topic of unemployment will come up, of how to explain what happened, of how their female companions will take the fact that the men don't have jobs (or paychecks that go with them). Some of these guys will explain away their unemployment by saying they're on sabbatical or working on projects.

Thing is, a lot of people in the US are without jobs right now. It's not an announcement that would be coming out of left field.

1. Just tell the ladies straight-up, fellas. It will give you a chance to ensure that the women you are dating are going out with you for the right reasons. Because really, does anyone under the age of 40 really go on sabbatical?Recession Entertainment: Romance Novels

2. Suggest free dates, such as taking a long walk in a local park or zig-zagging through the unexplored terrain of the city in which you live on bikes or rollerblades. It may surprise you that women (the right ones, who like spending time with you and appreciate you for who you regardless of salary) will swoon. Trust us. There are plenty of opportunities for get-to-know talk, hand-holding and spontaneous smooching along lengthy walks. Even on unemployment you can spring for a couple of sugar cones. Readers, would you be reluctant to date someone who is unemployed?
