Now that Christie Brinkley has dispensed with her nasty divorce from her revolting assistant-diddling fourth husband, Peter Cook, she's set her sights on a popular target for moms of a certain age: grandchildren. Christie says at 55, she's too old to add 31-year-old John Mayer to her list of conquests, but he should date her daughter, Alexa. "He's perfect dating material for my daughter," she said. Alexa, 23, is Christie's daughter from her second marriage, to Billy Joel, and it appears that her mother thinks lite-FM pop rock is in the blood, even though the Joel-Brinkley marriage lasted only nine years. Alexa, for her part, seems a little busy attempting to follow in her father's footsteps as a singer-songwriter, and she's doing it the hard way: playing clubs in New York and shilling on MySpace, rather than asking Dad to hook her up with a fat recording contract. We can respect that.

What we're wondering about, though, is how the subject of John Mayer dating either lady came up. When famous people are enjoying a nice bottle of bubbly on a Tuesday night and playing a little Cliff, Marry, Screw to pass the time, do their publicists notify the press of the conclusions said famous people have reached? "Hmm. Well, Naomi, if I must, cliff Jason Mraz, screw Johnny Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls, and marry John Mayer. Wait, that would be weird; he's a fetus. I guess Alexa can have him. Pass the Veuve and those smoked-salmon nibbly things, would you?"
