Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard finally took the proverbial plunge and got married this past weekend, reports People magazine. A rep for the actress said in a statement to the magazine, ''We are happy to confirm that Maggie and Peter were married on Saturday, May 2.''
The deed took place in uber romantic Italy, which seems to have become the hot new destination for celebrity weddings. (Salma Hayek chose Venice for her lavish wedding celebration only about a week ago). The quirky and often times underrated actress has made no secret of wanting a fairy tale wedding, and while she did get her dream wedding, she did it in her inimitable, low profile style, in a small chapel in Brindisi, Italy.

Among the forty or so guests in attendance were Maggie's brother, Jake Gyllenhaal, and his girlfriend Reese Witherspoon. Jake and Reese are routinely subjected to the are-they-or-aren't-they-engaged-rumors, and a fresh round on the heels of Maggie's wedding are probably to be expected! Are Jake and Reese Engaged?

The wedding itself comes as no surprise to anyone and has been on the cards for a while. The talented actor couple-both of whom are very often slotted in the 'indie' film niche-have been together for seven years and have a two year old daughter, Ramona. The wedding was initially reported to be taking place over Mother's Day weekend but got pre-poned slightly (wonder if out-foxing the inevitable paparazzi madness had anything to do with it?) It would certainly befit Maggie and Peter's deliberately quiet life, which they choose to live firmly outside the telescopic lens of the paparazzi, preferring to focus on their family and work.
