My wife said she was so relieved when I brought my first paycheck to her, and asked, "What do we need?" I have always believed that the money should be shared, and we always discuss what we get to carry with us on a daily basis. Bills come first, then we put all that's left in a pile, or look at bank statements, and either put it away or just keep $20-$50 on us when possible, just in case. The rest stays at home, or in the bank for when we need it.

I'd like to amend my comment. My husband and I treat our money as ours now. However, when we first got married we did not. It took time for us to develop trust and be willing to merge our finances. Not everyone needs as much time as I did, but that's what worked for us.
