I've found that I'm influenced by the spending habits of people I date. When I'm dating someone who's a good saver I'm inclined to spend less money. When I'm with someone who likes to go out to eat a lot--I do that (and spend money), too.
I'm the spender (although not a BIG spender, its just that in comparison to spending nothing, I spend more than him). he's the saver. We have a plan that works for us, but we've had to tweak it every year. A few years ago when gas prices were so bad we had no money in our going out to eat budget, now that we're used to not going out to eat and gas prices are better, we've taken all money we've put in savings for a big trip somewhere fun. I'm glad we have our system. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be able to save for fun big trips and without me he would never have shoes.
