What is it that makes the Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson saga so compelling to follow? Even when your left-brain tells you that there is nothing to be gained from watching this train wreck-in-progress, it's hard not to give in to your voyeuristic side. So, continuing in that vein, the latest installment seems to be what may well be a tentative reconciliation.

The New York Daily News is reporting that Lindsay and Samantha, have been ''sneaking'' around and spent Friday and Saturday night together.

''Shutterbugs caught Ronson, 31, leaving Lohan’s pad at 6 a.m. Friday after spending the entire night with her ex,'' the paper reported, adding that, ''Lohan, 22, was spotted heading into Ronson's home later that night and didn't leave until the next morning.''

In the 20 odd days that they have been broken up—and keeping in tradition of their volatile two-year relationship—the drama has continued unabated. The very public breakup was conducted through rather unconventional means—at least for most people. But for these two with their penchant for overkill—Samantha making sure Lindsay wasn't allowed to enter a party for her sister, and the subsequent changing of the locks—actually kind of makes sense. These off-the-cuff tactics seemed to have escaped Lindsay who apparently did not know she was being broken up with, saying on the Ellen DeGeneres show last week, ''I had no idea what was going on. I just hadn't seen her in like, a week. She like, disappeared.''

Add to this the threat of a restraining order by the Ronson family, Lindsay's alarming weight loss, and her mother Dina Lohan, who has trouble getting her own act together let alone taking care of her troubled daughter. What you're left with is a potent recipe for what some people were predicting would be Lohan's Britney Spears-style meltdown.

Meanwhile, even as Lindsay insisted on the Ellen show that she wanted to focus on her career, she also made it clear that she wanted Ronson back. That seems to have worked, as later in the week the two reportedly met, after which Ronson updated her relationship status on facebook from "Single" to "It's complicated."

The Daily News reports a source close to Lohan telling People magazine that the Mean Girls star's alarming recent weight loss is an attempt to get attention from Ronson. ''She is a self-destructive person,'' Lohan’s ''friend'' says. ''It's all part of her cry for attention. She wants Sam to see how bad she’s hurting and she wants Hollywood to see her as a 'tortured artist' who is wasting away … This is a symptom of something much bigger—a desperate need to be noticed.''
