Sometimes we miss stuff. And sometimes in our zeal to get you news hot from the offing, we jump the gun. Please believe that our hearts are in the right place. We're not trying to create news or start controversy and we will not get into the ring. That being said, we come hat in hand to apologize about the Josh Groban – Katy Perry rumor we mentioned yesterday.

It's a new day and the sun has shed light on the truth: MTV.com tells us that the pop stars are not dating each other. Josh Groban's rep (Luke Berland) told the Music Television website, "Josh and Katy are very close friends and hang out, but they are not a couple." Good enough for us. We suppose it is possible (though not terribly plausible) for a man and a woman to be close friends without dating (or screwing). Either way, a duet can't be too far off.

Not to editorialize too much but do you think Katy Perry secretly digs the media attention that she gets from the false rumors? The Benji Madden rumor caused her to be all (and we're paraphrasing to some degree), "OMG, you guys, can't a guy and a girl hang out as friends? You guys are soooo junior high, get a life, I mean for real. I don't even like boys didn't you hear my song? lol jk muah." Maybe by not dating they've saved us (the gossip mongers) a bit of bland work. We can't imagine it would be much fun to have to write about them. We're not saying they're boring but the most exciting thing we can think of to say about them is that he sort of looks like that one Hobbit guy (Billy Boyd) and she could probably pass for Zooey Deschanel in bad lighting. Sorry for the sour grapes, we just feel like we spend a lot of time on something that turned out to be false.
