Tom Cruise says he bought Katie the ring after the first date.
Talking about feeling the need for speed! Us Magazine reports that in an interview with T: The New York Times Magazine, Tom Cruise admits that he bought Katie Holmes’ engagement ring after their first date! The interview, featured in the magazine’s December 7th issue, evidently gives some insight into the courtship of the couple. Tom goes on to explain that Holmes admitted that she dreamed of marrying him when she was a young girl, to which Cruise replied, “I said I wouldn't want to disappoint her.”
This is what he also said shortly after he jumped on Oprah’s couch, just to remind everyone.
So, he went out and bought her engagement ring almost immediately after that meeting, saying he knew he wanted to marry her on their first date. Katie concurs, saying, “He was so warm, and I thought, 'Wow, you can be a superstar and a human being.'”
Ah, love at first sight. The age old question: does it exist or not? We all know people who admit that they were madly in love with each other from the minute they laid eyes on each other. As an incurable romantic, I would like to believe in kismet at first sight more than love at first sight. I believe that chemistry is the first feeling – all the right ingredients are there - but I think it takes time to fully know that you love someone. I believe people who are supposed to meet actually connect, know that there’s something there the minute they meet (sometimes not) but as they get to know each other, that feeling grows and they eventually make a lifelong connection.
But this isn’t to diminish the romance of TomKat. Who am I to say that true love doesn’t exist the minute you meet someone and everything honestly just works out from there? I do know that marriage is really hard work and all the chemistry in the world is no substitute for a good partner, someone who is willing to dig in and do more than their share when things get rough. You can have a feeling that someone has all the right stuff in that direction, but until you’ve spend enough time together to actually discover these things, it’s just good chemistry.
So, congratulations to Tom and Katie. I mean, it's kind of an odd relationship but love is strange. The ultimate romantic in me hopes that you guys continue to love each other, build a great family and bring the crazy so we have stuff to write about.
