Gov Palin's appeal can be quantified as an independence, out-spoken pride and fearlessness. Things that most folks wish they had more of. I grew up in Alaska at about the same time as the Governor but never ran into her. I, too was into varsity sports and a member of the 'in' crowd but I never let those things go to my head. I thought everyone enjoyed life and had the same things as I did. I also dated Miss Alaska 1980 (Sandy Lashbrook) for a short while and I will tell you that both of these women are more alike than not. Although Ms. Lashbrook is lesser known, she had the same 'mouthy chick' appeal as I recall. It takes a special type of person to willingly place themselves in the public eye and I applaud those who do. Having run for local politcal office I can say you either enjoy it or you quit. I'd run again in a minute and I hope Gov Palin does as well. She is the real deal.
