Change his style without offending him?

My husband has really fallen into a style rut. I'm talking cuffed khakis and gym shoes he bought three years ago. It's not important but I want him to take more interest in his looks because little adjustments would go far. I'm worried about hurting his pride if I suggest changes and don't want to just buy the things for him. I want it to be his initiative.

I buy him things that are more of a compromise of our styles(ie his fave colours but a better fit) and tell him how great he looks when he wears stuff I do love. Just pointing out stuff I like when we shop together, he'll often pick up something similar himself.

I agree with Alex. Instead of trying to actively change his style, just wait until he puts on something that looks good (or at least, acceptable) and then compliment, compliment, compliment! Trust me, he'll notice if you love a certain item on him.

But yeah, don't bring the negativity -- a lot of guys are awfully guarded about their style.

Wrong. I have a great sense of style and I would hate it if someone tried to change it.

I don't think most guys will get offended if you try to snazz him up. Just don't insult him while you do it. And don't get rid of his high school soccer shirt. Some things are sacred.

Dress him up nice and some other girl will take a shinning to him

That is so not true. Plus its fun to dress him up and if you use his money it costs you nothing.

One word: Sex!

Positive reinforcement all the way!! Tell him when he looks great.

I just buy clothes for him and he wears them. That easy.

Why would you do that? What a waste of time. He is a big boy, let him dress himself.

that's what I do! it seems to work.

I feel like my style (steez as the youths call it) has taken a major header since I got a serious girlfriend. The whole problem is the very high effort to pay-off ratio. The 2 options are sternly nudge (buying clothes, strong hints, etc) or entice. There's really no third direction.

Why do you want to change his style? Are you embarrassed by it? I guess I just don't understand why you feel like you have to change him
