Single in India: So Many Paths To Love

Indian women are lucky to have three choices: arranged marriage, love marriage or staying single.

<< PREVIOUS EPISODE

Liz Tuccillo, Sex and the City writer and co-author of He's Just Not That Into You, concludes that Indian women have the best of all worlds when it comes to looking for love. They can go the traditional route and seek an arranged marriage, they can date and look for a love marriage, or they can opt for total freedom and remain unmarried.

Can't Relate - Posted August 12, 2009

Are you kidding me? I was born, raised and educated in that country. The reality is so far from what is depicted in the video. The wonderful choices that the people talk about, is limited to people at the highest echelons of the society. Middle class has to struggle to make ends meet and finds hardly anytime to socialize, let alone seriously pursue a relationship.

Most women are still bound by unwritten caveats and is considered "loose" if she decides to defy the norms and chooses her partner. Arrange marriages work because people have low expectations.

So maybe the reality is only real for people in the city who have money.
