I think 'the one' is a myth conjured up by a consumer culture that has given people such a sense of entitlement that they have this list of criteria that they expect from a prospective partner. Women are the worst offenders at this, and the fact that the content of this channel is woman-oriented is instructive to my point. They follow the script to some stupid chick flick. What a superficial culture.
So does that mean I am not "the one" for him coz I'm positive I don't want kids and he does?
Actually, yes. The decision whether or not to have children is a big one, and 99% of the time the partner who "compromises" ends up resenting the other (or worse, the kids). I say "compromise" for lack of a better word; this is one of those issues that can't really be compromised, since there is no middle ground here.
