Oregon Man Is Pregnant
A tale of gender-blurring proportions.
Thomas and Nancy Beatie moved to Oregon from Hawaii a couple years ago. They run a successful business, own a home and are expecting their first child, a girl, in July. And then there’s the rub: Thomas, not Nancy, will be the one delivering the baby.
Thomas' story ignited across the Web last week after Thomas published an essay on advocate.com. His impending maternity/paternity leave challenges our notions of gender roles and societal norms, and generally induces a bit of head shaking. Wait a minute – the transgender Thomas still has girl parts? Yep. He decided to keep ‘em during his reassignment process years ago and was – clearly – successful in restarting his period after years of female hormone suppression.
Thomas is legally both male and married to Nancy. He certainly looks the part, too, with a flat chest and facial hair, thanks to surgery and testosterone therapy. His six-month baby bump might otherwise pass for a well-fed beer belly, if Thomas weren’t the unabashedly proud father/mother-to-be that he is, even in the face of judgment from the likes of family members and doctors.
Once upon a time, surrogate motherhood and same-sex adoption likely blew away firmly held beliefs about reproduction and family. In the future, when pregnancy news is delivered, will “Who's carrying?” be a common follow-up question to “When are you due?”

This WOMAN was a very attractive woman who decided that she wanted to be a lesbian, but apparently thought it'd be a better choice to mutilate herself and become an ugly man. She's not a man. She's a pregnant woman and this speaks volumes to the nature of our society.
This man/woman cant 'legally' be both. As a transgendered individual you have chosen to become the other sex. This woman hasnt taken the final step to becoming a man probably because the re-asignment surgury is extremely expensive and there may be health issues that would preclude a surgeon from performing the surgury so he/she may never become fully male.
I agree with Buzzbomb, a freak show looking for 15 minutes of fame. Not news, lets move on (quickly).
If he's pregnant he's not a man, regardless of how much he'd like you to believe he is.

I wonder why this is such an issue to so many--obviously, he was in the wrong body many years ago--outwardly, he wanted to be a man, but he decided to keep his internal organs, and what a blessing that was--as his wife was unable to conceive and carry a child--is this child any less loved because his father is carrying her? I don't believe so. And he was obviously artificially inseminated...
What I find appalling is people who pass judgment--this child will be loved and is a wanted child; what else do we as a society need to approve? In fact, to hell with anyone who doesn't approve--as long as they have each other's approval and support, the child will be fine.

I know I'm going to sound like a bigot here, but gender is not a state of mind, it is a biological fact. This person is a WOMAN who had her boobs lobbed off and took some shots. I'm thinking the kid will be growing up with some issues. My question is, will her boobs grow back for breast feeding or is that entire mechanism gone.
ok - he is legally a male but still has a uterus and i assume a vagina because the original article talks about how he got pregnant at home. It's not two "gay dudes" it's a transgendered male (formerly a woman) and his wife (presumably born a woman).
I think that this story is amazing. This is a loving couple who are starting a family. Who are we to judge how the family is started?? Love is love!
I hope someone has the good sense to have the cameras rolling when labor starts, right straight through delivery! Labor pains have a way of fixing any miss conceptions you might have thought you had.(Legal or Illegal)Male or Female! I hope it is "all" natural, no drugs or wimps allowed.Take it like a women!

First off lets get the facts straight. He is not a man. He is a female that turned into man. Basically he is a freak. This story is lame.. Trying to make this story big when we all know it is really a female. I feel bad for the kid growing up. He/she is going to have to deal with his parents being freaks.
