Matchmaker, Matchmaker

I have a slight obsession with that new Bravo show Millionaire Matchmaker. It's astounding to me that a woman gets paid to set trophy-searching wealthy men up with a bunch of gold-digging whor… (ahem), I mean… women.

But I have to admit, besides the pure entertainment value I get from it, I also take notes. Patti the matchmaker, despite her really annoying personality, is actually very good at matching people up. And since being engaged I have become something of a matchmaker myself.

See, most of Fred's guy friends are single. But they're not only single, they're all attractive, funny, smart, and employed. They're the kind of men that I look at and think, "Where the hell were all these guys hiding when I was single?" I didn't know they ran in packs. I thought guys like Fred were diamonds in the rough. But here they are, a group of eager, nice guys just waiting for the right girl to come along.

And that's where I come in. I set up one of his friends with a match.com account and I'm his dating "consultant." I have standing appointments with two others to set their accounts up. Every time I go to a brunch appointment or a cocktail party I keep my
eyes and ears open for single, attractive women.

It's like, now that I'm happy with my great guy, I can't stand to know that there are women out there going through the bullshit of dating losers, when I've got these six great, single guys at my disposal. I want to share the wealth. (Please feel free to leave comments if you want to know more about Fred's friends— maybe you're the one!)

I know I sound like one of those annoying couples at dinner with Bridget Jones ("So why are YOU still single, Bridget?"), but it's not that I think everyone should be in a couple. I really don't. I was very happy during my single years. It's just that I think that people who WANT to be a really great relationship should get that chance.

That's why Patti and I actually have something in common. I just don't get paid (though tips are appreciated…)

Can you relate?
