Traumatic 1st trimesters can lead to schizophrenia in kids.
More good news for expectant mothers. Not only do you have to lay off the caffeine, radiation, rollercoasters, booze, crack, and anti-depressants, and now it looks like drama is added to the list.
Researchers have discovered a link between severe stress and increased risk of schizophrenia. It is believed that the death of a relative occurring in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy can increase the likelihood of schizophrenia by 2/3. Unbeknownst to us (until just now), 1% of people suffer from schizophrenia at some point in their life.
Evidently, so variety of stress chemicals get dumped into the womb during traumatic times and first trimester babies are more susceptible. This sort of reminds us of that thing about cows. If they see their slaughter coming they release some hormone that makes the meat taste funny (strange not ha-ha, obviously). That’s an awful analogy. That’s what we get for growing up on a ranch. That and calluses.
