Bedfellows: Celebs & Candidates

Bedfellows: Celebs & Candidates

The film Blue State trails two strangers on their way to Canada -- one in protest of President Bush's 2004 re-election, the other to avoid reporting for a second tour of duty in Iraq with the U.S. Army -- who, despite their differences, ultimately fall in love.

As Chloe (Anna Paquin) leaves to re-enter the States and face arrest for desertion, and John (Breckin Meyer) drives off to presumably start a Bush-free life in the land of universal healthcare, she points out that politics does indeed make for strange bedfellows.

Take the unusual combination of Hillary Clinton and Tyra Banks, for example. The Senator from New York appears on the supermodel's show this Friday. One can guess that the topics of conversation will be more pop and less policy. The last Tyra show I watched had a penny-phobic woman fishing into a vat filled with the copper coins to retrieve a flashy watch and, of course, cure her phobia at the same time.

And I thought watching Desperate Housewives' James Denton lurk behind crowds at John Edwards' political gatherings in New Hampshire was strange. Not to mention Chuck Norris backing Mike Huckabee in Iowa. Does it get any better than the 2008 candidate/celebrity combo?

Blue State comes out on DVD February 12.
