Salt Lake City - Radio talk show host "Dr. Laura" Schlessinger is tired of all the complaints she hears from military wives who say they're lonely and overwhelmed.
"You're not dodging bullets, so I don't want to hear any whining - that's my message to them," said Schlessinger on a visit to Utah.
Schlessinger broadcaster her daily radio program on ethics, morals and values from the Fort Douglas theater here Friday. It's one of several visits Schlessinger is making across country this year, publicists said.
Schlessinger boasted of once talking a young woman out of marrying a soldier, saying "warriors need warrior wives," and the girl was unprepared.
Great. Just what military families need. Rumsfeld and Cheney wouldn't even say something so callous. Sure everyone has to stay ‘on mission’ and no one is actually ‘shooting’ at these spouses. But as these soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen are risking their lives, their spouses are back in the States worried sick about them. She further criticizes young military personnel for getting married too early, before they are mature enough to handle being separated during deployment. That’s a fair argument, but maybe they’re too young to get shot, so let’s try a little compassion. And furthermore, this is America evidently everybody has the right to complain about anything. In fact, it looks like we’re complaining about Dr. Laura’s complaining that military spouses are complaining. The system works. For the most part, military families are remarkably cohesive, check out the Dish from April 13th for a report on the low GI divorce rate.
