"Businessman, François-Henri Pinault, and his fiancée, Salma Hayek, are happy to announce they are expecting the arrival of their first child," Hayek's rep confirmed in a statement Friday.
The news, first reported by New York Daily News columnist Ben Widdicombe (via gossip site Perez Hilton), comes just days after a photo of Hayek made the Web rounds prompting speculation that she was expecting.
The pair have kept a relatively low profile since their relationship began – though Hayek, 40, has joined Pinault for occasional public events, including one in October at the festivities surrounding the inauguration of the Pinault Foundation's Modern Art collection in Venice's Gritti Palace.
This is just like the movie Hayek made with Matthew Perry, Fools Rush In. After impregnating the artsy Mexican woman, a well-to-do businessman decides to do the honorable thing and marry her. Problems arise due to their cultural differences, but in the end love proves stronger than adversity. Hayek and Pinault (CEO of PPR, the parent company of Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent) make a nice-looking pair, but the last French invasion of sovereign Mexican territory ended in embarrassment for Napoleon III. With her youthful, good looks it’s hard to believe that she’s 40. One hopes that her celebrity status could have gotten her all the Gucci and YSL clothes that she wants, there was no reason to cozy up to the boss.
