Ryan Phillippe only spends time away from his children to make "serious" movies.
The handsome actor - whose estranged wife Reese Witherspoon achieved global fame as ditzy Elle Woods in the 'Legally Blonde' movies - isn't interested in starring in "fun" films, because it's more important for him to be a good dad.
Ryan told BANG Showbiz: "I like making movies that make people think. I like making movies that push buttons, or make people uncomfortable, or question the world around them.
"That is something that is satisfying to me when I choose to take time away from my children to dedicate myself to work.
"I enjoy watching fun movies but if I put my time and focus into a project I like it to resonate and to mean something.”
Ryan Phillippe is only going to make quality, think-y films. Otherwise, he’s spending time with the kids. God forbid a serious actor makes a movie that people can sit and enjoy. Isn’t entertainment at the cinemas completely over-rated? We thought that only Sean Penn was permitted to make comments like this. Aren’t fun movies better able to get butts in seats and fuel careers? Has Phillippe not studied the George Clooney model of one-for-us/ one-for-them? It is a time-tested, proven formula. Just because someone’s ex-wife is hanging out with America’s favorite dude, Jake Gyllenhaal, and making fun movies, there is no reason to bash the art of the popcorn flick. And just for a quick run down, click here for Ryan Phillippe’s IMDB page. He must have meant starting… now.

Nicole Richie, ostensibly due to her 5-month pregnant state, served 82 minutes in jail. That’s fair. We once spent 82 minutes in line for the bathroom at a Kiss concert. It was like torture.
Amy Winehouse and husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, evidently whacked out their gourds on something or other, whooped each other a bit. Perez Hilton allegedly has some texts from Winehouse claiming that she abused herself and that he was injured trying to break it up. Ah, Sydney and Nancy-boy.
